Coming to Hood River!

Last week the Hood River City Council approved a measure to update the city’s contract with Waste Connections to offer curbside residential food waste and yard debris collection.  The program has been in the works for a while and we’re so happy to see progress being made.  We have to hand it to the Councilors for their remarkable job taking into account all of the details that come with the roll out of a program like this.  Deliberating both residents’ support and concerns regarding proposed municipal compostables collection, the Solid-Waste Collection Sub-Committee was able to recommend a sensible, robust collection program.  The Council approved, and now it will be a matter of executing the service updates.

All in all, we here at Dirt Hugger are simply thrilled to know that every week a significant portion of useful material will find a much better home than the land fill or burn piles.  We  applaud the City of Hood River and look forward to supporting the program as it comes to fruition.
