When Carola Stepper bought an old laundromat in The Dalles and decided to convert it into a new branch of Cascade Acupuncture, she probably never imagined how it would turn out. After a heavy remodel and some painting parties the interior looks amazing. But Stepper still wasn’t satisfied. The back lot was neglected and overgrown with blackberries. She decided to go a step further on the remodel and clean out the back to create space for leasable garden plots. In a flurry of activity she created ten raised beds made from old fence boards. Within five hours of dumping compost in her parking lot she filled all of the raised beds and was ready to plant the first vegetables.
Stepper’s leasable plots are a great deal for anyone interested in ready-to-go garden space. She will water the beds three times a week and they are filled with nutrient-rich Dirt Hugger compost blend. $20 gets you a 4′ x 6′ plot for the season.
