Tinsel Town

The past weekend Waste Connections brought us five full loads of Christmas trees. We are thrilled for the material, which will make excellent compost and provides great carbon for our process. The one thing we weren’t thrilled about was the amount of tinsel strewn over some of the trees. Tinsel could possibly be one of the most difficult contaminants to remove especially with gloved and/or frozen hands.

Don’t get us wrong, we aren’t against the holidays or tree flair, but we would ask for people to please remove tinsel prior to depositing their trees with the city. Hey, who knows, maybe it could be a benefit in compost by providing reflective material to scare off birds. Tinsel Town Compost anyone?
