First Snow

We had our first snow at the site last week. Nervous that the temperatures would drop in the compost piles we quickly shoved thermometers in to the windrows. While there was a minor dip on the coldest day, the temps still cranked, staying well above the required 131 degrees F for pathogen reduction.  Whoo Hooo!

Not satisfied to just watch the snow fall, Tyler and I decided to use the day to build a new storage area for finished compost. We are planning to screen windrows 1 & 2 soon and need a place to put the material and make way for new windrows. Below is a photo of the new storage site construction.
