We had our first snow at the site last week. Nervous that the temperatures would drop in the compost piles we quickly shoved thermometers in to the windrows. While there was a minor dip on the coldest day, the temps still cranked, staying well above the required 131 degrees F for pathogen reduction. Whoo Hooo!
Not satisfied to just watch the snow fall, Tyler and I decided to use the day to build a new storage area for finished compost. We are planning to screen windrows 1 & 2 soon and need a place to put the material and make way for new windrows. Below is a photo of the new storage site construction.
